Les exportations de la pêche sénégalaise sont estimées à 216 milliards FCFA à la date du 31 octobre 2017, a révélé jeudi le ministre de la Pêche et de l’Economie maritime, Oumar Guèye, soulignant que l’apport de ce secteur clé de l’économie s’élève à 3,2 % du Produit intérieur brut (PIB).
« En 2016, la pêche exportait pour 204 milliards FCFA, et déjà au 31 octobre 2017, on est à 216 milliards FCFA d’exportations‘’, a-t-il indiqué lors de la signature du Mémorandum d’entente du Projet d’amélioration des pêcheries thonières entre le groupe Thai Union et Senemer.
Le mémorandum entre dans le cadre du projet d’amélioration des pêches (ou FIP en anglais) pour les thoniers canneurs qui débarquent au Sénégal.
Son objectif est de parvenir à une certification et un label ‘’Made in Sénégal ‘’ dans le secteur de la pêche.
Pour le directeur des industries de Thai Union, Tony Lazazzara, ‘’le projet d’amélioration des pêcheries, dont le périmètre est le thon tropical pêché à la canne, représente une grande opportunité pour les pêcheries sénégalaises, car il leur permettra de démontrer qu’elles répondent à une demande croissante des marchés d’exportation pour une pêche plus durable’’.
Après la signature, a-t-il expliqué, ‘’nous travaillerons, avec les partenaires, sur la définition du plan d’action qui nous permettra d’atteindre le niveau de certification MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) dans un délai de cinq ans. Cette certification repose sur trois principes essentiels qui sont la protection des stocks de poisson, l’impact sur les écosystèmes marins ainsi que la manière dont les pêcheries sont gérées’’.
