Mme Ezekwesili, une critique du gouvernement nigérian, a été vice-présidente de la Banque mondiale et ministre dans le gouvernement de l’ancien président Olusegun Obasanjo.
Lors des élections de février, elle devra affronter le président Muhammadu Buhari de l’APC au pouvoir et l’ancien vice-président Atiku Abubakar, qui a été annoncé comme le candidat du principal parti d’opposition, le PDP.
Certains analystes estiment que la présence de Mme Ezekwesili dans la course pourrait perturber ce qui aurait été une lutte directe entre les deux partis dominants du Nigeria.
Ces deux formations politiques ont donné au Nigeria tous ses présidents depuis la fin du régime militaire en 1999.
