L’Italie a infligé des amendes de 10 millions d’euros pour Apple et 5 millions d’euros pour Samsung, via son autorité garante de la concurrence. Apple avait déjà été condamnée, par l’Union européenne notamment, pour des pratiques anticoncurrentielles, mais jamais pour obsolescence programmée.
Pour l’autorité italienne « antitrust », la stratégie employée par les géants de la téléphonie mobile Apple et Samsung relève de la malhonnêteté. Les constructeurs ont imposé des mises à jour qui ont, selon l’autorité italienne, « provoqué de graves dysfonctionnements » et rendu nécessaire le remplacement des appareils par de nouveaux modèles achetés au prix fort.
Apple est également épinglé pour avoir caché à ses acheteurs les caractéristiques de ses batteries au lithium, notamment leur durée de vie moyenne et leurs modalités d’entretien.
Lla marque à la pomme est confrontée à des procédures similaires dans d’autres pays. Aux Etats-Unis, une enquête est en cours sur le ralentissement de certains iPhone. En France, une procédure a été ouverte en début d’année pour « obsolescence programmée » et « tromperie ».
Après les plaintes déposées par de nombreux utilisateurs, Apple s’était justifié il y a un peu moins d’un an, reconnaissant brider certains modèles mais dans l’unique but de « prolonger leur durée de vie » et d’éviter qu’ils ne s’éteignent tout seuls.
