Après des années de séparation, les membres du célèbre groupe camerounais Los Camaroes se sont retrouvés pour l’enregistrement d’un album intitulé Resurrection Los.
C’est l’histoire d’un groupe camerounais historique qui a explosé au sommet de sa popularité et que des bons génies n’ont jamais cessé de faire revivre depuis. Los Camaroes émerge à la fin des années 1960 dans la ville de Maroua, dans le nord du pays. À sa tête, Jean Gabari… et le guitariste Messi Martin, qui révolutionne le son de son instrument : il place de petits bouts de papier mâché entre le manche et les cordes, produisant des modulations semblables à celles du balafon. Grâce à cette astuce, et à un jeu sans équivalent, le musicien devient le « roi du bikutsi ».
En 1975, sur fond de différends personnels, les membres du groupe se séparent. Trois ans plus tard, un certain Atangana Joseph tente un coup : retrouver les Camaroes et les réunir au Mango Bar de Yaoundé, où ils ont établi leur réputation. En résulte un album mythique : Resurrection Los . Six pistes, un concentré d’énergie où la science des vétérans se conjugue à la fougue de nouveaux venus. Mais le disque qui devait annoncer le retour de la formation sur scène est un testament, plus jamais Gabari et Martin ne joueront ensemble. Presque quarante ans plus tard, grâce au label Analog Africa, une nouvelle édition luxueuse de ce projet voit le jour. Les crevettes se sont transformées en phénix.
