selon des sources de RFI,pour faire avancer le dossier de libération, le chef de l’État malien, Ibrahima Boubacar Keita qui a reçu l’épouse de Soumaïla Cissé, a récemment envoyé deux émissaires en Algérie.
Soumaïla Cissé a été enlevé par des hommes armés près de Tombouctou. Les ravisseurs ont libéré onze autres personnes enlevées en même temps que lui.
Selon toujours les informations de RFI, le contact est établi avec les ravisseurs pour la libération de celui qui fut plusieurs fois ministre de la République du Mali et qui s’est classé deuxième, à la dernière élection présidentielle.
Le 25 mars 2020, durant la campagne pour les élections législatives, le convoi de Soumaïla Cissé est attaqué. Son garde du corps est tué, deux de ses proches sont blessés, Cissé et onze membres de l’équipe de campagne sont enlevés. Durant son enlèvement, Soumaïla Cissé est réélu au premier tour des Législatives, le 29 mars.
