Intitulé Les crimes de Grindelwald , ce nouveau film se situe en 1927 à Paris.
Norbert Dragonneau est un magizoologiste, un sorcier qui s’est spécialisé dans la recherche et la défense de créatures magiques, certaines dangereuses et terrifiantes.
Après un premier film d’exposition se déroulant à New York, ce deuxième chapitre, beaucoup plus sombre, voit le jeune homme missionné pour aller à Paris afin de récupérer un jeune garçon aux pouvoirs très puissants, Croyance, et prendre de vitesse le méchant de cette nouvelle saga, Gellert Grindelwald.
Les fans de la saga Harry Potter seront heureux de voir apparaître le (futur) directeur de l’école de sorcellerie de Poudlard, Albus Dumbledore, jeune, sous les traits de Jude Law. Ils découvriront une nouvelle incarnation du mal, Grindelwald, incarné par Johnny Depp.
David Yates, le réalisateur du film : « Quand J. K. Rowling m’a présenté Grindelwald, elle m’en a parlé comme d’une rockstar. Elle voulait qu’il soit sexy. Moi, j’ai été intrigué par ce personnage qui est poète et visionnaire, c’est un Trump ultra . »
Bien que se déroulant dans les années 1920 dans un univers magique de fantaisie, cette nouvelle aventure semble curieusement faire écho à notre monde, avec la résurgence des populismes et du racisme.
