Moussa Faki Mahamat a, dans un communiqué, fait part de sa ‘’profonde inquiétude [face] aux explosions de violence qui ont suivi les manifestations publiques et ont entraîné des pertes en vies humaines et dégâts matériels.
Au moins cinq personnes ont été tuées au cours de cette manifestation de protestation contre le projet de loi de finances présenté par le parlement, le 13 juin dernier.
Ce projet de budget 2024-2025 prévoit l’instauration de nouvelles taxes, dont une TVA de 16% sur le pain et une taxe annuelle de 2,5% sur les véhicules particuliers.
Le secrétaire général des Nations unies António Guterres a également exprimé son inquiétude.
Dans un communiqué conjoint de leurs représentations diplomatiques, le Canada, le Danemark, la Finlande, l’Allemagne, l’Irlande, les Pays-Bas, l’Estonie, la Norvège, la Suède, la Roumanie, le Royaume-Uni, la Belgique et les États-Unis ont également déploré les morts et blessures par balle enregistrés au cours de cette journée.
Le Conseil de sécurité nationale de la Maison Blanche a condamné les actes de violence et appelé au ‘’calme’’ indiquant que les ‘’États-Unis surveillent de près la situation à Nairobi’’.
