Dans une interview pour le site internet du club de Watford, Ismaila Sarr explique pourquoi il a décidé de ne pas migrer vers les géants espagnols et a plutôt décidé de rejoindre Rennes en France. « Quand j’ai déménagé à Rennes en 2017, c’était un transfert de dernière minute » , a-t-il expliqué.
« C’est vrai que j’ai choisi Rennes plutôt que Barcelone et j’ai pris cette décision parce que je ne voulais pas aller à Barcelone pour m’asseoir sur le banc ou jouer au niveau B. Je voulais jouer, je voulais vraiment jouer et c’est pourquoi j’ai choisi d’aller à Rennes. J’ai entendu beaucoup de bonnes choses sur l’endroit. Je n’y connaissais personne avant de rejoindre, cependant. Peu m’importe que le club soit en France, tout ce qui m’importe c’est de jouer. Je n’ai ressenti aucune pression des gros frais de transfert, je ne ressens jamais ce genre de pression avec les prix de transfert », a-t-il ajouté.
