Témoin de nombreuses irrégularités impliquant des navires locaux et étrangers pendant son séjour en mer, Greenpeace recommande la mise en place d’un organisme de régional de gestion des pêches fort et efficace. Le responsable de projet à bord de l’Espéranza, Pavel Klinchamers, dans le quotidien L’As du jour, alerte.
«La situation hors de contrôle dans les zones ouest-africaines est alarmante et confirme encore le besoin urgent de prise de décisions», alerte l’organisation qui attire l’attention sur la surcapacité de pêche, un problème réel conjugué à une insuffisance d’information sur les stocks de poissons disponibles.
Greenpeace dit vouloir interpeller les gouvernants pour arrêter cette exploitation effrénée, de les amener à prendre leurs responsabilités et à coopérer autour d’une gestion durables de leurs ressources.
Les navires de pêche industrielle, relève l’organisation, opèrent dans les zones de pêche destinées aux petits pêcheurs et les communautés locales.
