Des cas ’’assez évolués’’ de lèpre et de ’’forme trés contagieuse’’ ont été recensés dans le district sanitaire de Kaffrine, dans le centre du pays, a révélé le docteur Lala Fall, chef du service de léprologie du centre hospitalier de l’Ordre de Malte (CHOM), à Fann (Dakar).
’’Je confirme qu’on a des nouveaux cas de lèpre dans la région de Kaffrine. Ce sont des cas assez évolués et de forme très contagieuse qui ont été répertoriés dans le district sanitaire de Kaffrine’’, a fait savoir la dermatologue lundi à une rencontre avec le personnel de santé de ce district sanitaire.
’’Il y a encore la lèpre dans la région de Kaffrine, des poches endémiques au Sénégal. Malheureusement beaucoup parmi ces cas ne sont pas encore dépistés au niveau des structures de santé’’, a regretté le docteur Fall, sans donner de précisions sur les nouvelles infections recensées dans cette partie du pays.
Elle a rappelé que le Sénégal qui a une prévalence nationale s’élevant à 0, 3 pour 1000 habitants, se situe encore en dessous du seuil d’élimination de la maladie.
La dermatologue du Centre hospitalier et universitaire de Fann (CHU) a néanmoins insisté sur l’importance d’accroître la sensibilisation sur les symptômes de la maladie et de renforcer les capacités des personnels sanitaires quant à la détection et à la prise en charge de cette maladie.
’’La lèpre est handicapante et très mutilante lorsque le dépistage n’est pas fait très tôt. Le dépistage est la meilleure forme de prévention. Pour rompre la chaîne de transmission de la lèpre, un dépistage et un traitement précoce sont nécessaires’’, a-t-elle ainsi indiqué.
