Au total 17 femmes ont perdu la vie dans le chavirement d’une pirogue survenu lundi soir à Bettenty, un village insulaire situé dans la commune de Toubacouta, département de Foundiougne, a appris l’APS de source autorisée.pirogue qui transportait une soixantaine de personnes dont 51 femmes a provoqué la mort de 17 d’entre elles et 41 autres s’en sont sorties avec de légères blessures, a indiqué la source sécuritaire jointe au téléphone.
Parmi les blessées deux sont en état de grossesse et devront être évacuées à Missirah, poursuit-elle.
Les autres blessés ont été transportés au poste de santé de Bettenty alors que deux personnes sont portées disparues.Les recherches qui se sont poursuivies jusqu’à 20 heures ont été suspendues pour reprendre demain matin (mardi) à cause de obscurité, l’absence de moyens et le niveau élevé d’agitation de la mer, a indiqué l’agent assermenté.Il a ajouté que seuls deux hommes figuraient sur la liste des personnes embarquées dans la pirogue qui a chaviré aux alentours de 19 heures.
D’après les témoignages, les femmes victimes de cet accident provenaient d’une cueillette d’huîtres.
