La plainte à était déposée par International Rights Advocates (IRA) devant un tribunal de Washington, au nom des 14 victimes non identifiées, des membres de la famille des enfants tués dans l’effondrement de tunnels ou de murs, ou des enfants mutilés dans les mêmes circonstances.
Elle accuse nommément Apple, Microsoft, Tesla, la maison mère de Google et Dell de profiter du travail des enfants et d’imposer à ces derniers un « travail forcé et une détresse émotionnelle » dans les mines de cobalt. C’est la première fois que l’une de ces entreprises technologiques est confrontée à un tel défi juridique.
