Il a fait exploser sa voiture à l’entrée de ce quartier général alors que les gardes ont tenté de le stopper en tirant sur lui. Dans l’explosion, en plus des deux militaires et de l’assaillant tués, des civils ont été blessés.
Le port de Chabahar est stratégique pour l’Iran. En effet, il permet de créer un corridor nord-sud, permettant de faciliter les exportations d’autres pays vers l’Afghanistan et de relier les pays d’Asie centrale aux mers chaudes.
Attaques régulières
La ville de Chabahar est située dans la province de Sistan-Balouchistan, à la frontière pakistanaise, qui compte une importante minorité sunnite, alors que la très grande majorité de la population iranienne est chiite.
Des groupes extrémistes sunnites mènent régulièrement des attaques armées dans cette région. Dernière en date : une dizaine de soldats iraniens ont été enlevés par un de ces groupes extrémistes avant d’être emmenés au Pakistan.
L’Iran accuse les Etats-Unis et l’Arabie saoudite de soutenir ces groupes et demande au gouvernement pakistanais de coopérer pour mieux contrôler sa frontière.
