En Algérie, le journaliste Saïd Chitour est sorti de prison ce dimanche 11 novembre. Reconnu coupable d’intelligence avec l’étranger, il a été condamné à 16 mois de prison ferme après être resté en détention provisoire pendant près d’un an et demi.
Visiblement très affaibli et malade, Saïd Chitour a été présenté devant un tribunal ce dimanche 11 novembre. Le journaliste algérien, correspondant surtout pour des médias anglophones, avait été arrêté en juin 2017. Il avait été accusé d’avoir remis des documents confidentiels à des diplomates étrangers « dans le but de nuire à la sûreté nationale ».
Le journaliste était en détention préventive depuis 18 mois lorsque la justice a annoncé la semaine dernière qu’un procès aurait lieu ce dimanche. Reconnu coupable, Said Chitour a été condamné à 16 mois de prison ferme et à un an avec sursis. Il va donc sortir de prison.

Il y a dix jours, il avait été évacué en urgence vers un hôpital. Selon ses proches, sa santé s’est beaucoup dégradée pendant sa détention. Une information qui a relancé la mobilisation des journalistes algériens pour demander sa libération, ces dernières semaines. En décembre 2016, un journaliste condamné pour « outrage » au président et aux institutions, Mohamed Tamalt, était mort en détention
Le tribunal d’Alger a par ailleurs rejeté ce dimanche la demande de libération provisoire d’ Adlène Mellah. Il avait été arrêté fin octobre avec deux autres journalistes, libérés jeudi
