A près de 250 mètres de hauteur, la « Tour Mohammed VI » à Rabat , dont les travaux ont débuté ce jeudi, pourrait prétendre au titre de la plus haute tour du Maroc et d’Afrique, selon l’agence officielle MAP.
Situé sur la rive droite du fleuve Bouregreg à Salé , près de la capitale du royaume, l’édifice comptera 55 étages et sera réalisé pour le compte de la BMCE Bank du milliardaire marocain Othman Benjelloun. Le projet avait été annoncé en 2016, et depuis des études préliminaires ont été menées, a dit Othman Benjelloun devant le roi Mohammed VI au cours d’une cérémonie officielle.
Une livraison prévue en 2022
Le chantier a été confié à un consortium formé du constructeur belge Besix, qui a notamment participé à la construction de la tour Burj Khalifa à Dubaï , de l’entreprise chinoise CRCCI et de la société marocaine TGCC. L’édifice, dont la date de livraison n’a pas été communiquée, devrait coûter 4 milliards de dirhams (367 millions d’euros), selon le budget prévisionnel. Les constructeurs Besix et TGCC avaient toutefois affirmé mi-octobre que la « plus haute tour d’Afrique » doit être livrée en mai 2022.
L’édifice abritera des bureaux, des résidences, un hôtel ainsi qu’un observatoire sur ses quatre derniers étages. Le royaume avait lancé un vaste programme baptisé « Rabat, ville lumière », qui prévoit la réalisation de nombreux projets sur les deux rives du Bouregreg, comme le « Grand théâtre » dessiné par l’architecte irako-britannique Zaha Hadid et la « Maison des arts et de la culture ». Le Maroc compte à ce jour deux gratte-ciel, la tour Maroc Telecom à Rabat (139 mètres, antenne comprise) et les tours jumelles Twin Center à Casablanca (115 mètres).
