Rabat et la Haye vivent une crise diplomatique qui a atteint une dimension très sérieuse en raison de ce que le Maroc considère comme une immixtion dans ses ses affaires intérieures avec un rapport du ministre des affaires étrangères néerlandais sur la situation dans la région du Rif lors du mouvement du contestation.
Sauf que la Hollande constitue le principal soutien financier de cet événement avec une subvention de 400.000 DH que les organisateurs du festival ont refusé de rembourser aux généreux donateurs pour être en conformité avec leurs principes de boycott d’un pays invité d’honneur et sans lequel le festival n’aurait pas tenu plus d’une édition ou même jamais existé. Une situation d’autant plus incompréhensible que la crise entre les deux pays étaient connus bien à l’avance de l’ouverture du festival et que les organisateurs ne devaient pas attendre la veille de l’ouverture pour déclarer leur invité, indésirable,mais pas son argent.
